As I mentioned in a previous Comic Curve, I have been working on a five page short for an upcoming anthology. I took the opportunity to try something completely different from anything I've done before. I challenged myself to illustrate a concept rather than tell a story. I've really enjoyed the work of Larry Gonick and Scott McCloud in the past, and I wanted to try a fun, lecture style strip.
The 'story' is difficult so I wanted to try and make the illustrations as simple and concise as I could. I'm also trying to experiment a lot with panel borders and layouts. It's the most design oriented work I've done to date.
I'm also trying to better capitalize on the binary nature of black and white comics. I'm not going for 50/50 dark to light on the page, but I'm trying to get my ratio a lot closer to that. I'm enjoying how it's turning out, but it'll be hard to say whether or not I'm successful without outside input.
It's a short Comic Curve this week because Marvel vs Capcom 3 came out, and I have an unhealthy affinity for fighting games. Until next week!
