With a million things on my plate outside of comics it's hard to stick to a schedule. I've found that scripting often takes the back burner being just for practice. I'm still regimented to my Public Education schedule as I'm in the final legs of the work before I start producing the book.
I didn't really want to talk about that though, I wanted to talk about taking a break from comics for a night to experiment with art in a broader sense. Or at least expanding my knowledge of the visual arts. I recently ordered a Sumi-e set. It came in yesterday and I put everything on hold.
Making picture after picture with big japanese brushes. Making my own ink with crazy bars of solid ink and mixing it with water myself. Just exploring the way the new brushes worked in the ink washes. It was a whole lot of fun. Nothing turned out great, but the evening was spent in a wholly worthwhile manner.
